I’m Still Alive!!!

Hey everyone,

I’m sorry I haven’t been on in awhile, but I’ve been really busy.  First off, I just returned from Los Angeles after presenting a panel on yokai at Anime Los Angeles.  It was a wonderful success and I’m really glad so many people are interested in Japanese folklore.

Second, I’ve been in the process of writing two books on the yokai, both schedule to be published in easy 2015 by Turn The Page Publishing.  I’m really excited and I hope you’ll be excited to read them!

Talk to you soon!

Back From New Hampshire

Hey everybody!  I came back from Another Anime Convention 2013 in Manchester, New Hampshire yesterday and I am pleased to report that my panel lecture titled “Yokai: The Most Underappreciated Monsters in the World,” was a full-room success!  Alot of people I attracted knew when I was talking and I am really pleased that I was able to inspire people with Japan’s weird mythology.

I hope to have a video of my lecture up soon so be on the look out for that!

I definitely want to keep presenting, so now I’m going to start submitting my lecture to conventions in major cities.

Also, be on the look out in the next six to nine months for a book I’m writing dedicated to the yokai!

The Bells Remember (9/11), by Michael Goldstein

The bells are ringing differently today
There is no mirth in their chime
I can hear the bells ringing today.
Ringing,
ringing so
The bells are weeping
just like they did before
They ring for the saved
They ring for the lost
They ring for the mourning
They ring for the fighters
They ring for the heroes
They ring through fires
They ring through horrors
They ring through darkness
They ring through pain
They ring through sorrow
They ring for sunshine
They ring for growth
They ring for promise
They ring for better
They ring for new days
The bells never stop ringing
The bells never stop ringing

Yokai Tanka: Bake-zori

Zo-zori-zori,

Running through an empty house

Dancing in the dark

Even without the humans

The sandals will dance-dance-dance

A-Tanka-A-Day: Ayakashi

Three days on the sea

Rain falls upon a small boat

Men gather their pails

And gather the gallons of oil

From the eel’s underbelly
